Cleveland Monsters Extend Winning Streak to Four
On Wednesday, November 13, the Cleveland Monsters extended their winning streak to four games with a 3-2 overtime win over the Toronto Marlies.
Owen Sillinger kicked off the scoring for Cleveland 1:26 into the first period. Linemate Rocco Grimaldi set Sillinger up with a beautiful behind-the-net pass to make the goal come to fruition.
After a strong start to the game, the Monsters took a 30-minute break allowing the Marlies to take the 2-1 lead by the middle of the third period. “The middle frame, first10 of the third, was a little slow, “ said Head Coach Trent Vogelhuber.
Luckily, for Cleveland, hometown boy Curtis Hall kept with a puck stuck in traffic and tied the game, 2-2, with 5:22 to play in regulation. Hall’s goal ignited a flame within the Monsters that allowed them to push the game to extra time. “Yea, that was big. It got the energy back.,” said Coach Vogelhuber on Hall’s equalizer. “ We were a little bit flat there for the middle 30 minutes of the game I thought. We got the energy back, and I liked us from there on out.”
A crowd of 8,073 fans were treated to a thrilling overtime featuring big saves from Zach Sawchenko and defender Samuel Knazko playing a game of keep-away for around 30 seconds. Extra time ended with the Monsters on top after Grimaldi scored the game-winning goal with 42.1 seconds left on the clock.
Sawchenko finished the night saving 26 of 28 shots faced.
